The Outpost Lodge, Arusha

The lodge is situated on a quiet, safe road within easy walking distance to the clock tower roundabout and local shops; very clean and simple, with a warm and authentic feel and plenty of character and charm. The property is well-maintained, the staff professional, and due to the small size, can address you by name.

Rooms at The Outpost

The unique rooms are in a lodge style, with large cool tiled showers and shared patio areas with plenty of shade.  The rooms towards the back are furthest from the road and are less troubled by the noise of barking dogs at night.  Water pressure and electricity supply varies like any other place in Tanzania, but there are plenty of power sockets for recharging phones, cameras, etc. The beds are comfortable, with good mosquito nets, the television channels include one with American shows, but the garden rooms are overshadowed by trees that drop nuts onto the roof, which can be disturbing to light sleepers.  Geckos are commonly seen around Outpost Lodge; they are encouraged as they actively hunt the mosquitos.

The Outpost Lodge Restaurant

The food in the restaurant is good, freshly cooked fare at an affordable price, but they do charge a slightly different exchange rate in the restaurant as it is a separate business.  The seating is comfortable, the menu is extensive and well-suited for clients heading out for safari or climbing.

Facilities at The Outpost Lodge

The courtyard and restaurant are great places to read a book and the regularly cleaned pool is not bad for a small lodge. There is free Wi-Fi in the communal areas, but coverage can be patchy at times: computers with Internet connection are available for a reasonable fee. The laundry service is quick and efficient, and cabs are easily ordered through the reception desk. You are strongly recommended not to walk into town at night.  Security watches the gate 24 hours a day for your peace of mind.

Trip Advisor Review Disclaimer:

We estimate that around 30% of the reviews on Trip Advisor are probably fraudulent; something that Trip Advisor is powerless to prevent.  What was begun as a chance for fellow travellers to review hotels honestly, has since been subverted as a tool for unscrupulous businesses to promote their own services and to damage their competition’s reputations, and for disgruntled guests whose unreasonable demands have not been pandered to, to punish their accommodation providers.

While the UK’s Advertising Standards Agency banned Trip Advisor from claiming that its reviews were genuine, and while we advise that readers do not assume to be genuine everything that they read, we nonetheless feel that Trip Advisor is still helpful, in the absence of there yet being a more credible alternative service.
