Onsea House, Arusha, Tanzania
Probably the most pleasant place to stay in Arusha, Onsea House is luxurious, very well organised and yet relaxed.
With the feel of a villa in the South of France (and staff accents almost to match), Onsea brings uncompromising European standards of hospitality and cuisine to Arusha.
The principal drawback of Onsea is that being a small exclusive guest house you’re very lucky if we are able to find availability here for the dates you’ll need, so you are advised to book your climb as early as possible if Onsea is your choice of place to stay before and after your climb.
That said, however, we would discourage any booking requests for Onsea except where flights have already been purchased and there is no possibility of any amendments needed to be made to your required accommodation dates. The reason for this is that Onsea have only five double rooms in total, and are therefore unable to credit payments from a booking made for one date, to another date, should it transpire to be necessary to adjust your timings. This is because a lost room booking represents an impossibly difficult to absorb 20% revenue loss to Onsea, and it may often be the case that Onsea will be unable to sell your unused room to another guest, especially since it is already known that booking for Onsea should be made long in advance and where there is virtually nil possibility of cancellation!
Understandably then, Onsea have adopted the position that postponements will be regarded as cancellations, and will therefore incur either heavy penalties or total forfeiture of paid funds. Climbers are required to understand and accept this, prior to requesting rooms here.
Situated ten minutes east of Arusha, Onsea rests in an idyllic setting and is a perfect option for those wanting somewhere where they can be left to themselves, away from the crowds. That said, please bear in mind that Onsea is a small guesthouse and that other guests may be celebrating their mountain success, or merely their leisure, and that their celebrations may impact on your own relaxation, especially if you are housed in the main house, which is within audible range of the dining verandah and bar.
While accessible by vehicle from Arusha, there is no walking access to other restaurants (and we believe that you will not find better cuisine anywhere within Northern Tanzania anyway), so it is recommended that you book at least half board at Onsea.
